The Free From Bakehouse is looking for a TEMPORARY and FULL-TIME skilled pastry chef (with cake decorating experience) to join us at our production unit in Battersea.
We’re an established artisan gluten free bakery that Bakes from scratch and makes a wide range of award winning baked goods for wholesale customers throughout London and our Borough Market stall.
Whilst you need to have a minimum experience of 2 years or more as a pastry chef, you do not need to have experience of gluten free baking.
The role is split into baking, decorating and preparing for despatch and is a job for someone who’s worked in a busy commercial or artisan bakery that specialises in cakes and cupcakes (not a bread bakery).
Creative cake decorating skills (not sugarpaste) are required for masking and finishing layer cakes and cupcakes in a contemporary style, however please note this is not purely a cake decorating role.
You will have a handover for a week or two with the existing Head Pastry Chef baking whole cakes, traybakes and small Bakes etc. And will:
• Be very organised, with an efficient approach to work
• Work calmly and efficiently when preparing cake orders and baking whilst maintaining high quality of appearance
• Have a keen eye for detail and a passion for baking and decorating with high standards
• Can work under pressure to meet deadlines, fulfil orders and be flexible with time
• Be able to plan / prioritise workload based on orders and delivery schedule
• Be responsible for ensuring enough ingredients are in stock and ordered
• An excellent level of English
• Friendly and engaging communication skills as you will be working in a small supportive team
Your hours will be approximately 45/50 per week (7am start) on a Monday to Friday basis (for about 7 weeks whilst existing staff are on holiday).
Location: SW11 5 QL. Benefits: Pension. Fruit. Cake. Pro-rata equivalent of 28 days holiday. The role is available from early August to mid September.
