Sam Forster Ltd is an exhibition build company working in many of the UK’s leading galleries and museums, primarily in London. We build temporary walls, display furniture, and bespoke Audio-visual and artwork installations.
We are looking for an experienced carpenter/foreman, who is familiar with the London galleries and museums in which SF Ltd operates, and the high standard of finish demanded.
The position entails supporting and overseeing the successful completion of projects, which commonly run simultaneously. You will be involved from the initial enquiry to the final client handover, incorporating management of any off-site workshop based fabrication through to on-site builds and client liaising.
Responsibilities:
• To take an active role in the on-site build process (carpentry and finishing works)
• To manage an on-site team of varying trades/skills to successfully complete the brief.
• To monitor and maintain high level of finish across all disciplines of construction process.
• To maintain a good working relationship with gallery staff and clients.
• To be highly aware of the delicate nature of environments in which SF Ltd operates, and take responsibility for protection of gallery/museum architecture/art works in the vicinity of any SF Ltd activity.
• To be prepared to work weekends, on occasion, to ensure a project’s completion.
• To monitor workshop material stock levels and thereof.
• To oversee the safe working practices by all our staff and sub-contractors, whilst on and off site.
• To develop existing working practices to the benefit of SF Ltd and it’s client base.
experience required:
• A carpentry/joinery background (qualifications desirable).
• Familiarity with a workshop environment and a good working knowledge of its relevant tools and
machinery and their upkeep.
• Working with MEWP’s.
• Knowledge of Rams.
Skills required:
• A good mathematics and literacy skill set.
• Understanding of technical drawings, and the use of to set-out builds at the outset of a job.
• Ability to take on-board and carry out instruction from management team.
• Flexibility and ability to readily accommodate changes to a project late on or during construction stage.
A clean driving licence is essential.
