About the opportunity
The Events Coordinator will help set up and manage a busy calendar of classes, workshops and events. This role is key to the school and offers a great opportunity for the right individual who is looking to; take part in the organisation of the school’s calendar and in the organisation of events; gain experience working in an office environment.
Key responsibilities include:
• Set up and maintain the school’s ‘events’ calendar
• Provide support in planning events throughout the year
• Provide support in organising events
• Research and book venues
About Professor Marcus Cabeca's Capoeira School
Professor Marcus Cabeça’s School is an established Brazilian martial arts school (since 2006) with strong links in the local community. The school has an office based in Kingston upon Thames but delivers classes in 3 different location across London and is affiliated to an international organisation of the world’s leading Capoeira schools represented in over 23 countries.
Professor Marcus Cabeça’s School sets out to teach all aspects of Capoeira, the self-defence, music, philosophy and its Brazilian heritage. It also provides workshops with worldwide professionals and takes part in public events, demonstrations and performances, such as the 2012 Paralympic Closing Ceremony, Notting Hill Carnival, International Youth Arts Festival and many more.
Our office is a casual, yet professional environment involving both team work and independent tasks and projects. It is a great place to gain experience and expand one’s knowledge in a variety of areas. We have an experienced team of staff and volunteers from a wide range of professional backgrounds on hand to provide support and guidance and share their skill sets including negotiation, project management, data analysis, policy and strategy development, relationship building, marketing and advertising. Where necessary specific training will also be provided to help you develop and grow your own skill set.
What are they looking for?
No specific qualifications are required, however the following is desired:
• Preferably be passionate about martial arts (although not a must)
• Be passionate about sports
• Be well organised, pro-active and able to deliver tasks efficiently.
• You will be asked to speak to a variety of stakeholders, including funders and donators so you will need to be a confident communicator.
• Be computer literate - a good understanding of Microsoft Word and Excel are beneficial although support from other volunteers will be provided if necessary.
• Show professionalism at all levels and in all environments
• Be a strong team player
Practical Considerations
