Managers at The Dome stay a long time so this is a rare opportunity to join us at an exciting time in our development. Now in our 22nd year, we continue to be at the forefront of Edinburgh’s restaurant and bar culture. We have the city’s busiest Afternoon Tea Room, a great mix of traditional and contemporary dishes in our dining rooms and now the city centre’s first Morning Tea while our bar tenders serve fantastic cocktails and amazing drinks at our bars. In addition to the dome-ceilinged Grill Room, mahogany and mirror-lined Club Room and the grandly proportioned Georgian Tea Room, we have the Front Bar, private dining in the Green Room and a range of Conference Suites.
Responsibilities and Duties
This job is not for the faint-hearted - The Dome is like an hotel without bedrooms. Part of a Management team, a Duty Manager will control an area of the business whilst maintaining an overview of the operations of the whole building. The evening Duty Manager takes charge of the entire building through to lock up.
Qualifications and Skills
The successful candidate will already have several years’ experience managing high-volume, quality venues and be skilled at maximising covers through table and duration management. We use Quadranet but experience of any computer-based diary is desirable. The position is hands-on, so you will need to be physically fit and have the stamina to operate this huge building. Immaculately presented and speaking fluent English, you will be able to present The Dome to our guests with your professional service, charm, sense of humour and innate sense of hospitality. You will have experience of managing teams, training and developing a rapport with the entire staff. You will be accustomed to shift work and have a flexible approach to hours. As Christmas is our busiest time of year, we do not take holidays in November or December but are closed on Christmas Day.
A Scottish Personal Licence, Food Hygiene, Health and Safety and First Aid qualifications are all desirable though appropriate training can be provided. Wine training and knowledge would be advantageous.
Benefits
The position carries a competitive starting salary with enhancement after a three month probationary period, uniform allowance and a share of tips from the Staff Tronc.
