Main Responsibilities:
1. Provide a door to door service to day care clients, collecting and delivering clients to and from their destination as required by route schedules.
2. Undertake route planning to take into consideration clients’ needs and traffic conditions.
3. Undertake manual handling activities, for example assisting wheelchair users and assisting disabled people to walk to/ from the vehicle.
4. Work alongside Care Officers, under the supervision of the Care or Services Manager, to ensure clients are transported safely to and from the relevant destinations.
5. Be responsible for the safe and comfortable access of the vehicle by all passengers, ensuring that wheelchair users and those unable to manage steps do so safely using the accessible lift.
6. Ensure all wheelchairs and equipment is secured safely before driving off.
7. Ensure that all passengers are sitting safely and comfortably in their designated seats with belts fastened before driving off.
8. Be responsible for daily safety checks of the vehicle. These include the daily checking of oil, water and exterior bodywork before the commencement of each journey. All defects must be immediately reported.
9. Be responsible for maintaining the vehicles in a clean and tidy condition.
10. Adhere to safe working practices, Health and Safety policies and other procedures; report all accidents and incidents in accordance with procedures.
11. Be responsible for day-to-day health and safety issues, and ensure that a duty of care is maintained to him/herself, their passengers and other colleagues.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE and QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
1. Full clean UK driving licence for at least 2 years with no motoring convictions. Category D1 on driving licence.
2. Significant experience of driving up to 15 seat minibus and people carriers
3. Must be able to travel anywhere in the UK and abroad as required. Accommodation and subsistence will be covered by the company where the Driver’s work extends outside of London.
4. experience of carrying out minor maintenance tasks
5. Excellent driving skills
6. Knowledge of traffic regulations
7. Good organisational skills
8. Map reading and route planning skills
9. Knowledge of South East London area
10. Ability to undertake regular vehicle checks (including fluid levels) and able to maintain the vehicle in a clean and hygienic condition.
11. Good communication and people skills
12. Physically capable to undertake regular manual handling activities such as: assisting wheelchair users and disabled persons to / from bus
13. Patience and empathy with a good sense of humour
14. Ability to work well as part of a team
15. Able to work flexible hours
16. Reliable, Conscientious and Punctual
17. Ability to undertake and apply any training required for the job
18. Must provide 2 work references and 1 character reference.
19. The post is subject to enhanced DBS disclosure and the successful candidate must have no criminal record.
GENERAL
21. Ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to third parties.
22. Notify the Registered Manager / Responsible as soon as possible of your inability to report for duty and also on your return to work from all periods of absence.
23. Ensure security of RSM properties is maintained at all times.
24. Adhere to all Company policies and procedures within the defined timescales.
25. Ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with Health and Safety regulations.
26. Undertake any training and development as required.
27. Undertake any other duties and responsibilities that reasonably fall within the scope of the role.
Drug/Alcohol test will be carried out at any given time.
