General Information for Job Applicants
Wandsworth Community Transport (WCT) is a registered charity which runs a minibus hire service for community groups, as well as passenger services for disabled and elderly individuals. WCT provides services through a contract with Wandsworth Council, as well as charitable donations from numerous sources.
We have recently taken on a contract with TfL to do a number of Dial-a-Ride runs in the area, and this is why we are recruiting new drivers.
WCT is a great place to work, with generous and flexible terms and conditions and working practices. We have a small, close knit team that delivers important services in the community and the work is varied, challenging and extremely rewarding.
Our Minibus Hire Service provides a central resource of fully accessible minibuses for community groups and disabled individuals based in the Borough of Wandsworth. Member groups include Lunch Clubs, Social Clubs, Tenants Associations, Schools, Scouts and Guides, Places of Worship and Sports Groups; in fact any community-based activity that is not-for-profit. Integral to this service is a driver assessment and training programme, to ensure high standards of passenger safety.
We operate a number of shopping shuttles to the local shopping centres, plus a full programme of outings for disabled and elderly people. In addition, Wandsworth Community Transport runs a Shopmobility scheme based at Wandsworth town centre.
We would be unable to provide any of our services without a constant supply of volunteers to drive for community groups, or to act as escorts for disabled passengers.
WCT is committed to promoting Equal Opportunities in all areas of our work. We are taking positive steps to provide transport services for groups or individuals who have not become regular users of our services in the past, with the aim of widening the availability of our services in order to reach all parts of the community. Our offices are fully accessible, with a passenger lift from street level, and a wheelchair-accessible toilet.
WCT has a policy of 'No Smoking' in our offices and vehicles.
