DEPUTY EDITOR, PULSE Pulse, the multi-award winning magazine for GPs, is looking for a new deputy editor who has a strong background in news and investigations. The role will lead Pulse’s agenda-setting investigations. Over the past year, Pulse's investigations have been featured in national newspapers more than 150 times, including more than a dozen mentions on the front page, have been raised in Parliament by the shadow health secretary and have led to petitions attracting hundreds of thousands of signatures.The right candidate will be experienced in investigative journalism, ensuring data is robust, generating plenty of new ideas, working with the news editor to manage the team of reporters and even writing up features themselves.The deputy editor will lead on special projects for both the print magazine and online, such as the Pulse Power 50 and special issues, such as the ‘good news’ issue and the General Practitioner trainees special. There is plenty of scope to tailor the role, to work on new projects that will appeal to a wider demographic of GPs, or work on exciting innovations for the Pulse Today website. They will also cover the editor when needed.The right candidate will have at least five years’ experience in journalism. Trade journalism and/or health journalism is preferred, but not essential. Essential.
At least five years’ experience in journalism;At least two years’ experience in an editor role;A track record of breaking exclusives;A track record of initiating and conducting investigations;A background of commissioning articles;Line management experience;
Desirable
A background in trade journalism;A background in health journalism;A science degree.
