Data Manager - Actuarial, Analytics and Exposure Management

Reports to the Analytics Manager
£65000 - £85000 per annum
Purpose and Accountability
* A mixed database architect, developer and administrator role, embedded in the Pricing and Analytics Team to help develop, manage and update the systems that house their data.
Principal Accountabilities The role includes responsibility for:
* Working within the Pricing and Analytics Team and across the wider business to identify and harmonise common data elements and structures across our universe of model data-stores (predominantly Access or SQL Server DBs at the moment).
* Performing migration of legacy Access data-stores to SQL Server.
* Assisting (either directly or working with IT) with the administration and maintenance these data-stores, particularly with respect to refreshing, differencing and performing diagnostics on ones which are large and feed from multiple sources (e.g. Exposure Management/RMS data).
* Advising on optimal data structures and architecture at the design/planning phase of rating model specification (at the moment this would focus on ensuring robust, adequately normalised RDBMSs but in the future could relate to other types of storage).
* Interpreting the structure of third-party databases that form the backbone of the Pricing and Analytics data landscape (in particular, RMS and Rule Book databases).
* Helping with the design of queries and views to expose data feeding into Pricing and Analytics initiatives.
* Champion the company values and work in accordance with the organisational behaviours.
* To be aware of and comply with the relevant rules and regulations in relation to financial crime and conduct.
Technical Capabilities Essential:
* Knowledge of various ETL techniques and frameworks
* Advanced knowledge of SQL Server Management Studio, including the Analysis, Reporting and Integration Services.
* Advanced knowledge of T-SQL.
Highly Desirable:
* Working knowledge of R and RStudio product offerings
* experience of applying software development principles, including environment management and version control (ideally in SVN).
Desirable
* Knowledge of the Rule Book platform, particularly Data Views.
* Knowledge of RMS databases.
* experience with NoSQL databases
* experience with Hadoop v2, Map Reduce, HDFS
Additional Information
