The Larder is an award-winning collection of five unique East London café venues, each with a large and growing customer following in its local area based on our consistent quality of food, drink and service.
Due to our success, reputation and hard work over 10 years, we are now expanding and have new venues coming on stream shortly, giving us a number of roles to fill including a key position for a senior chef in our vegetarian kitchen at the Larder, Bethnal Green.
The Larder in Bethnal Green is a bustling East London vegetarian cafe and coffee shop hosting a vibrant lunch trade and a busy weekend brunch service, and we now have a fantastic role for a creative and self-motivated chef to produce a small but perfectly formed breakfast and lunch menu. In common with all Larder venues we use only wholefood ingredients, but this is no nut-cutlet joint, we serve imaginative and flavoursome dishes to a very discerning clientele and need a chef who can deliver with regular changes in the menu, having plenty of room to shape the direction of our offering.
Can you create rather than just cook, and can you work solo (with some help from an experienced kitchen assistant) whilst managing the second chef who works the days off? If so this can be a superb lifestyle role, working 5 daytime shifts per week and getting home for dinner instead of making it! We will pay £20,000 - £22,000 annual salary, the higher end of the range especially for someone with proven baking skills or great vegetarian experience.
For the right chef, who is interested in moving the Larder in the direction of a more formal evening venue two nights per week (for which there is good demand), a higher rate would apply and we would also consider a residency/partnership approach to evening service. This role reports into the group head chef and would suit someone working confidently at the CDP or junior sous level currently.
As a chef joining the Larder team you will:
- Be a passionate vegetarian chef with a wide repertoire
- Be capable of devising a well balanced menu
- Have at minimum 3 years experience cooking from fresh ingredients
- Have at least 1 years vegetarian restaurant experience
- Be capable of managing the stock and ordering processes
- Expect to preserve our 5-star food hygiene rating through strict standards
- Have a good manner, flexible attitude and get on well with colleagues
- Perform well under pressure without losing sight of the high standards expected
Benefits and rewards:
* Competitive pay rates with early pay rise for strong performers
* Career development - as an expanding business your role can also expand
* Flexible working hours - we can offer either four or five day weeks to suit your lifestyle
* 28 days annual leave
* Staff and Family discounts
* Free hot beverages and lunch on shifts
Apply by email with an up-to-date CV and covering note, being clear about why you left or wish to leave your current role and mentioning your current or most recent rate of pay. Due to the high volume of applicants we will only reply to those who have the appropriate level of relevant experience.
