Community Arts Manager Needed

22.5 Hours p.w, £9.75 p.h, flexible working hours
Working closely with both internal and external stakeholders, the Community Arts Manager will further develop SMH’s community engagement aspirations, strengthening and establishing relationships/partnerships with the communities in and around Bethnal Green.
At the heart of SMH’s community engagement plans are our community projects. Create Place, our creative studio, is a launch pad for starting a project that benefits the community and a space for creative people to gather, learn, create, and have fun.
Our aspirations for the Create Place reflect our ambitions for SMH. We believe that by working with the local community, through the Create Place, we have the opportunity to both provide accessible classes for people who want to learn new skills, and to support creative people in sharing and teaching to our community.
A priority task for the Community Arts Manager will be to manage the Create Place, reporting to the Events and Communications Managers as well as work closely with other members of the SMH team, colleagues from partner organisations, local stakeholders, community organisations, and external professional advisors where appropriate.
Objectives
Specific objectives will include, but not be limited to:
Developing, implementing and evaluating SMH’s community arts strategy.
Managing the Create Place studio.
Act as an ambassador for the Create Place and St. Margaret’s House, representing it at relevant local events and delivering presentations to promote our projects.
Act as a first point of contact for workshop instructors/clients, providing excellent service and knowledgeable support, information and guidance.
Developing strategic relationships with local stakeholders (including local residents and their representatives, community/third sector organisations, and local authority public health groups.)
Providing feedback and strategic advice on community engagement to the Events Manager.
Commissioning/co-producing creative community projects.
Identifying and developing opportunities to collaborate with other organisations on community engagement activities.
Ensuring that the community arts strategy is integrated with the SMH communication strategy.
Contributing to the work of the wider communications and engagement team, including internal/external communications, public affairs, media work and events, as appropriate, to ensure rich and timely communication and positive showcasing of success stories.
Work closely with other members of the SMH team, openly sharing knowledge and expertise and collaborate on joint initiatives.
Carry out general administrative work including record keeping, database updating, reports etc.
Community Arts Manager Person Specification
This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engagement/communications specialist to develop the SMH community engagement model. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, high achieving engagement or communications professional with a strong interest in the local creative industry.
The role will require the following:
experience
experience of working in community engagement and/or communications.
Budget management experience.
Project management experience, including experience of commissioning/co-creating and managing community projects (experience of creative/arts projects is desirable.)
experience of working with a range of stakeholders, including local government, craft sellers, volunteers, third sector organisations and academic institutions.
Knowledge
Educated to degree level or equivalent and holding relevant professional qualifications.
Excellent knowledge of methods and channels for engaging with a wide range of stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds.
A comprehensive knowledge of good communications and engagement practice.
Knowledge of the voluntary and not-for-profit sectors.
Skills
Outstanding communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to engage and build relationships with a range of stakeholders.
Strong organisational and planning skills, the ability to prioritise in the face of competing demands, and proven success in delivering work personally (and through others) to tight deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal skills, enabling the post holder to work effectively as part of a team

An interest in the creative sector.
Entrepreneurial and imaginative.
High levels of self-motivation, with the ability to work within an environment subject to change.
Flexible attitude to working environment and ability to work as part of a team.
Energy and drive with a focus on delivery.
This position may include occasional evening and weekend work.
