Unity is a UK-based grassroots charitable fund, working to bridge the needs gap of refugees, starting in areas in Turkey and expanding to countries such as Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and Palestine. The areas in Turkey despite having large refugee populations lack the attention of aid organisations and the media, therefore immediately needing support.
Our first projects will support The Syrian Social Gathering (SSG). SSG provides health care, education, vocational training and legal support to some of the 300,000 refugees in Mersin, Turkey. Their projects are thriving, with the exception of their underfunded legal centre. We are initially fundraising for this, allowing them to expand from providing legal documentation to 3,500 people per year to 11,000. This documentation allows Syrian refugees to get AFAD cards, providing access education, healthcare and work permits, under the Turkish government. Moving forward we are undergoing further field research to identify needs gaps and start projects accordingly, with the support of local organisations.
Financial transparency is extremely important; we will provide easily accessible financial reports, so funders can see exactly where their money is going. We also aim to have little to no donations funding personal and company expenses. Donors will know that most, if not their entire donation will directly benefit the beneficiaries. This will be done through personal and business funding.
We believe strongly in working with and supporting local people and organisations and over time passing field operations to them, whilst providing support from a distance.
We are looking for a skilled communications and social media intern to join our small London based team. As we plan to launch next month, and are currently in the need of a team member who can design and update our social media sites (facebook, twitter and instagram) regularly as well as design and update our website through Square Space (easy to use website design site). An ideal candidate would be someone who is creative, innovative and reliable.
The is a voluntary position which will last for approximately 3 months, but there is a possibility of being offered a long term, stipended role depending on the person and the expansion the charity. It will be a part-time flexible role to begin and we will adapt the times to fit the right candidate.
Roles include:
- Creating a website for Unity’s launch.
- Updating the website as the work Unity does progress.
- Creating and maintaining social media platforms for Unity, such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
- Keeping to date with relevant current affairs to update these social media platforms.
Desirable Criteria:
- Invested in the humanitarian crisis and is driven to make a difference.
- Previous experience in maintaining media platforms, on a minimal or mass scale.
- Thrive under pressured and challenging situations but capable of working steadily towards a deadline.
The main criteria we look for in our candidates is a passion for the role.
Please send your cover letter explaining why you are the best candidate for the role and a CV.
