The Role:
The Commis Sommelier is responsible for creating the highest level of wine, champagne, and sake service in the restaurant. This position will be required to reach sales targets set by the company that are reasonable and attainable but require motivation and commitment. You will support the senior Sommelier team in service, and ad hoc assistance where required. This is the perfect role for someone who is very passionate about wine and sake and wants to grow and learn through a great training scheme.
Job Duties:
• Responsible for the recommendation and sales of wines and other beverages to guests.
• Work towards target revenue per guests and revenue per month.
• Monitor all beverage storage facilities to ensure proper storage techniques are being handled
• Maintain clean and orderly wine cellars.
• Adhere to all purchasing and stock control procedures.
Minimum Requirements:
• Fluent English speaker
• High School Diploma or equivalent, some college preferred
• WSET Level 1 or an equivalent wine degree preferred
• At least 1-2 years of experience in a related field, preferably in hotels or restaurants
• Has a warmth and hospitable approach with each guest, and is also a team player amongst team
• Flexible and long hours sometimes required
• Ability to stand during entire shift
• Exerting up to 25 kgs of force occasionally, and/or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move object
• experience as a successful salesperson in a fast pace service environments a plus
• Knowledgeable about the pairing of wine with food is imperative
• Knowledge of Sake a advantageous, but not essential
