Chef for Sourdough Bakery in East Finchley

Margot is a small, independent bakery in East Finchley, North London serving our loyal regulars and wholesale customers with fantastic sourdough, cakes and pastries which are all produced on site. We are looking to expand our offering this year and so are adding a chef to the team with responsibility for breakfasts, lunches and other savoury items. We don't do much short order cooking - most of our menu is designed to be displayed on the counter for takeaway and we have a small number of covers.
You will have plenty of input in creating the mostly vegetarian menu (we use fish occasionally), incorporating seasonal produce and building menus around the products the bakery makes - a variety of sourdough breads, focaccia and handmade pastry. We regularly make soups, Pies, quiches, pastries, salads, breakfast with seasonal fruits and house made granola, sandwiches on our own bread and have an extended menu for the weekends.  There is scope to test and introduce new products to the menu. You will work 5 or 6 days out of 7 with some weekend shifts required on rotation. The position can be 30 or 40 hours per week with a 6am start so if you are local that would be great. There will be some flexibility with hours as we see what works best.
You will work alongside the bakers and front of house teams and will place orders with suppliers, check deliveries and carefully observe food safety and hygiene standards.
experience in a busy commercial kitchen environment with responsibility for producing food made to a high standard is essential as are excellent communication skills, reliability and punctuality. The most important quality is the enjoyment of good food and a desire to refine and create dishes with fantastic flavour that will match the quality of all the other bakery products and be a source of enjoyment for our lovely customers.
Starting salary dependent on experience and will be reviewed after three months.
