Carer to boy With Special Needs

Posted: 69 days ago
Place: SW15 5QN, Putney

Job description
Busy family with 4 kids (G15, B13, B11, B9), 2 dogs and a cat looking for extra help on weekends and more for our son, who has cerebral palsy.
We live in West Putney, near Barnes
Our bright and charming young man needs someone to help with all aspects of life and we are looking for someone to support him on the weekends. He needs help with feeding, toileting, getting around in his wheelchair, communicating (he's non verbal but has lots of ways of "talking"), doing homework and therapy, socialising and playing.
Occasional help/care of other children

Hours:
Saturday and Sunday, 7:30am-3pm (sometimes later, by prior agreement)
Option to work Fridays too 7-9:30am, 3-7pm.
Usually a total of 15-20 hours per week hours depending on what we are up to and your availability.
Frequent opportunities to do ad hoc days, babysitting and do holiday cover for our full-time carer/PA.
Possibility of holiday travel abroad with the family.

Requirements:
- Solid childcare experience with references.
- Common sense and a sense of humour. Must be comfortable working in the heart of our family.
- Good spoken and written English
- Live locally
- Special needs experience not required but an interest helps; we will train up the right candidate. This role has in the past been a good fit for childcare and teaching students (often Roehampton), or training/newly qualified therapists.
- Must have strong back and be prepared to do heavy lifting.

Start date: Sept/Oct 2022
We will start taking applications now. Please submit CV with introductory letter explaining why you are interested in this position. Interviews will take place from the 25th August. If you are Unavailable then we would consider an initial Skype conversation.

It takes awhile to get up to speed with the job so we ask for a minimum of a year’s commitment.  It's not for everyone but for the right person it's a very fulfilling and enjoyable role.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks,
Tamara
