We are looking for a carer for our 18 year old son who has athetoid cerebral
palsy. He is a bright and friendly young man, a wheelchair user with fairly severe physical disabilities and is non verbal, using a computer to communicate. We need someone on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays from 4.30pm to 7.30pm, Wednesdays 4.15pm to 7.15pm and 9.30am to 1.30pm Saturday mornings (although there is flexibility about timings and day over the weekend). 16 hours a week in total. There may also be other occasional extra work in the evenings, and timings and days can be flexible both ways in school holidays. Care will be based in the family home in Hackney E9.
Duties would include personal care, help using equipment, feeding (using a
peg) and accompanying on social events. The ability to befriend and communicate with a non verbal teenager is probably the most important skill needed and some basic IT skills would help with this. Practical skills would also be helpful. A good command of English is essential. experience preferred but not essential as full training would be given.
Pay is £11.00 p/h using Direct Payments.
DBS check and references required, a current DBS/CRB would be useful.
Please send a C.V.
