The role of Butcher would suit somebody passionate about their trade and preparing organic meat. You would prepare specialty merchandise consistent with Whole Foods Market's quality goals and maintain a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service. In this role you will support the Meat / Seafood Team Leader, Associate Team Leader and Regional Coordinator in maintaining regional standards.
Duties and responsibilities
Receives, unloads, and puts away product delivery.
Breaks down beef, pork, lamb, poultry and fish products.
Prepares specialty merchandise like sausage, ready-to-cook products, and cured meats.
Places orders in the absence of the Team Leader and Associate Team Leader.
Explains cooking techniques for all meats and cuts to the customer.
Work on the Seafood Counter as required.
Trains and mentors other Team Members on how to cut and prepare various meats and fish.
Properly uses scales and follow established Weights and Measures procedures (tares).
Complies with all applicable health and sanitation procedures and adheres to safe work practices.
Operates and sanitises all meat equipment in a safe and proper manner.
Complete date checks for all stock (Front cabinets and back chillers), and remove any out of date products.
Answers department telephone calls and pages quickly and with excellent phone etiquette.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Meat Team Leader or Associate Team Leader.

Ability to follow instructions and established procedures.
Excellent cutting skills, with ability to break meats into sub-primals.
Knowledgeably communicate the product line to the customer.
Ability to understand customers' needs.
Ability to perform simple math operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with other Team.
Members and leadership.
Ability to understand and complete departmental transfers.
Physical requirements
Stand and walk for extended periods of time up to 4 hours without a break.
Bend and stoop to grasp objects and climb ladders.
Bend and lift loads, acceptable for the requirements of the position, unassisted.
Push and pull carts, acceptable for the requirements of the position, unassisted.
Good sense of taste and smell to be able to determine product quality.
Ability to visually examine products for quality and freshness and to check signage and labelling for accurate pricing.
Demonstrated proficiency in the proper use of a dumpster, baler, forklift, knives, meat saws, sausage grinders, and all related equipment.
Work Environment
Environmental exposure: temperature extremes (coolers, freezer, outdoors), wet areas.
Work in a moderately noisy environment.
Work on a variety of floor surfaces including tile and concrete.
Other requirements
Able to work a variety of shifts including weekends, evenings, and holidays.
Willingness to receive constructive feedback pertaining to job performance.
Willingness to provide exemplary customer service constantly and consistently.
Good communication skills.
A desire to learn about natural and organic foods and products.
