Simon is a smart, active and chatty 12-year-old. He loves football, rapping and computer games. He lives with his parents, younger sister and a new baby brother. Simon has a diagnosis of autism, sensory processing difficulties and suffers from expressive, receptive and pragmatic language difficulties. When anxious or upset, he can resort to oppositional behaviour. Simon can clearly express his feelings; you’ll need to recognise when you need to step back and give him space.
We require a confident, proactive and sensitive Buddy who can support Simon to explore new interests and activities and promote his independence and encourage self-confidence.
Your role will be to supervise the after-school routine, organise different community activities or just relax with Simon at home. As new experiences can be daunting for Simon, a calm and patient approach is essential. You will need a good understanding and extensive experience with children with autism. We are particularly keen to hear from candidates with a background in Psychology, SEN or Occupational therapy.
This exciting position will suit an active, energetic and fun support worker who will build a trusting and engaging relationship with Simon and help him to achieve his full potential.
Please note, whilst Snap endeavour to reply to all applications, some of our positions are so popular this is not possible and only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
