Based in a beautiful part of London, just 2 minutes walk from Hyde Park, and close to the V and A and the Natural History Museum, the Gloucester Road Oxfam shop is one of the busiest shops in London. Our aim is to fight poverty all around the world by raising as much money as possible by selling the items that are donated to us.
The assistant manager will help with running the shop. Responsibilities will include closing and opening the shop, recruiting and training new volunteers, cashing up, marketing and other administrative tasks.
This opportunity will allow you to get retail experience, improve your managing skills and be a part of a great team of people fighting poverty together.
You will:
- Assisting the Manager in the daily running of the shop
- Opening and closing of the shop
- Assisting the Manager in the training and recruitment of new volunteers
- Cash handling and administrative tasks
- Understanding the work that Oxfam does as a charity and the importance of the Gift Aid Scheme
- Sorting out and pricing donated items
- Managing new products
- Operating the till and give new volunteers till training
- Working in a team as well as independently
No previous experience is needed, so don’t be afraid to apply, if you are successful, full training will be given. So if you are committed to fighting poverty, willing to learn new skills, and consider yourself a reliable and responsible person, then this opportunity is for you.
Preferable skills are:
- Ability to plan your own workload
- Comfortable with communicating by email and confident with Microsoft Office
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Adaptable and flexible
- Willingness to undertake training as and when required
- The willingness to help other volunteers and sharing knowledge
- Ability to motivate yourself and others
You will have an opportunity to:
- Gain substantial experience in retail management
- Train and operate as an Assistant Manager
- Become a part of an international team committed to fighting poverty
- Lunch costs and reasonable travel expenses can be reimbursed in line with Oxfam policies
- Employment references on the successful completion of Internship
- Meet new people and make new friends
At least one 4-hour shift a week. Shifts are 10 am- 2 pm and 2 pm- 6 pm (Monday- Saturday) and 12 pm- 5 pm (Sunday).
