Your day-to-day duties could include:
Allocating and managing accommodation
Controlling rent arrears
Inspecting property and arranging for repairs to be carried out.
Supervising catering, cleaning and maintenance staff.
Looking after the welfare of residents
Checking on health and safety, and conducting risk assessments.
Working with outside agencies, carers and parents.
Dealing with emergencies
Managing community spaces and facilities
Dealing with any problems with the buildings or tenants.
In a care home setting you may be:
Working with homeless people, older people or those with some level of physical disability.
Checking on residents each morning, making sure they’re well.
Helping residents to live independent lives.
In a youth hostel setting, you may provide information on local activities and tourist attractions.
You’ll need:
The ability to relate to a variety of people.
The ability to stay calm under pressure
Maths and IT skills
Record keeping and report writing skills
You’ll usually work 35 to 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday. In some cases you may work weekends.
