Kitchen Porter / Cleaning Operative required for The Gardens Cafe, a friendly community Cafe based at Manor Gardens Centre, off Holloway Road.
This is a permanent position for 10 hours per week; the hours are Monday to Friday, 2.30pm – 4.30pm. The hours are expected to increase to 15 hours per week in July 2008. Salary is GBP6.00 per hour.
The successful applicant will be friendly & efficient. You will need to be reliable and punctual, and possibly have some experience of working as kitchen porter / cleaning operative in a busy cafe or restaurant (but this is not essential) and be enthusiastic to learn. You will have a good understanding of importance of cleanliness & hygiene in the kitchen and work well in a team.
This is a pretty physical job, as dirt likes to hide in corners and places which are hard to reach, so you will need to be enthusiastic and hard working. We are looking for someone who is thorough and meticulous, and takes pride in their work, as we want to see our cafe looking clean and shiny (and we hope that you will feel the same).
Duties will include: washing, drying and putting away kitchen equipment; operating the dish washing machine; helping chefs to clean the kitchen at the end of the day; sweeping and mopping the kitchen floor at the end of the day; to ensure high levels of cleanliness; helping with cafe 'deep cleans' when required.
The Gardens Cafe is a busy community cafe which is part of a charity project, and also offers placements to vulnerable volunteers. We operate a healthy food policy (we aim to make healthy, yummy food, at affordable prices) and aim to use local, sustainable and fair-trade produce where possible.
References are required. Successful candidates will be required to come for a trial shift / interview.
