Community Leisure Centre Manager


An exciting opportunity has arisen to manage a leisure centre in the west London region. This role is an interim post, which requires a minimum commitment of at least 4 months.

Working with the Head Of Sports, your main duties will consist of the following:

To effectively and efficiently manage and develop the Leisure Centre

To create and implement a business plan for the Leisure Centre

To have overall responsibility for the safety and well being of all customers, visitors, contractors and staff

To have overall responsibility and accountability for site security including cash, building and controlled items.

To be responsible for health and safety,

Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety Executive guidelines

To develop, implement and monitor appropriate processes, policies, procedures and standards to ensure the safe and smooth of the centre

To project manage investment schemes and the development of facilities

To lead on setting and managing budgets

To contribute to the production of the Sports Service's annual Service Operational Plan

To work in partnership with internal and external agencies

To be responsible for the effective and efficient management of all the business units

Obtaining advice and support from the Council's Property and Asset management team where appropriate.

To lead on the implementation and development of a computerised information management and bookings systems

To be responsible for the recruitment, selection and appointment of staff and to be responsible for the line management and personal development of staff

To be responsible for effectively monitoring and managing the control of expenditure and adherence to agreed budgets

To be responsible for maximising income and usage by continually developing a balanced programme of sporting, conferencing and function activities

To be responsible for the recording, collation, analysis and presentation of all relevant management information

To be responsible for establishing and implementing a planned and preventative maintenance regime

To be responsible for the management of contracts including security, catering and cleaning and lead on the re-procurement of these contracts where and when necessary.

To be responsible for monitoring the performance of all contractors and sub-contractors

To ensure at all times health and safety and food hygiene is given the highest priority

To lead on the achievement and maintenance of Quest accreditation other quality awards and accreditations such as ISO14001

To prepare reports and other correspondence and be responsible for dealing with customer complaints and enquiries as required.

To develop a programme of regular and effective consultation.

To develop a marketing strategy and ensure the centre is effectively marketed to all potential user groups

To keep up to date and ensure compliance with new developments relating to sport and leisure

To carry out and ensure that all staff carry out their duties with due regard to the Customer Care, Equal Opportunity and best value policies

To undertake any other duties, as and when required, to ensure flexibility within the work of the Service.


For this role you must be highly capable of the following:

To work occasional early mornings, evenings and weekends as required including visiting the centres outside of 'normal' hours in order to check that appropriate standards are being maintained

To be contactable outside working hours in the event of an emergency particularly in relation to a major incident


You must also be available immediately and be able to commit to an ongoing duration for the role.
