Financial Assistance - North London
Out client are looking for an experienced Finance Assistant that will support the Finance Bursar in all areas of financial management, reporting and budgeting for the five main entities across their organisation. The Finance Assistant reports to the Finance Bursar who in turn reports to the Director of Finance & Administration. The Finance Bursar is responsible for all aspects of the finances, accounting systems, and accounting staff to ensure efficient and effective operation.
Here are the key area's of responsibility:
Calculating and processing costs
Calculating and processing amortisation of prepaid membership fees
Reconciling weekly receipts to bank statements
Maintaining fixed asset register and calculating depreciation charge
Process invoices on the purchase ledger across all entities
Reconcile monthly payroll payments
Reconcile quarterly investment movements
Review spend across areas of the organisation and use to project full year spend
Reconcile petty cash expenditure
Analyse income and expenditure for quarterly VAT returns
Provide statements of spend to budget holders and resolve queries
Assist the Finance Bursar in producing termly management accounts
Assist the Finance Bursar in producing statutory accounts for all entities and supporting paperwork as required by the Auditors
Take on other duties in the Bursary more generally as required
To propose courses/seminars as required to ensure that personal professional development requirements are me
To initiate, if the Finance Bursar has not done so, a performance appraisal at least once every two years
Requirements for the post.
(i) Passed some stages towards a recognised finance qualification e.g. CIMA
(ii) Experience of working in small finance team
(iii) IT literate with experience of using Sage Line 50 or similar accounting package; significant experience of Excel, Word
(iv) Proven organisational skills ? plans, organises, prioritises in a productive manner.
(v) Willingness to work closely with colleagues from a wide range of backgrounds and motivations: in this case, involving bursary, other support and teaching staff as well as pupils
(vi) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: constructive and confident attitude to discussing financial budgets with staff; willing to work closely with Bursary colleagues and not shy to ask for assistance/clarification where necessary
(vii) Experience in a school, college or university would be advantageous
(viii) The ability to adhere to confidentiality requirements and deal discreetly with matters as required
